We provide relief from back and neck pain.

One of the most common problems that people suffer from is back and neck pain. Whether it be an acute attack of pain from bending over to lift a heavy object, a whiplash injury from an unfortunate road traffic accident (RTA), or a chronic tension in your back and neck muscles from sitting for hours at a computer, we can help ease your symptoms and the underlying causes.
Being one of the major referral issues from most major insurers, we see a large number of back and neck pain sufferers on a daily basis. Each individual case we see has its own unique causes and symptoms, making it a challenging injury to diagnose and treat effectively.

Back pain

The primary causes of back pain tend to be:

• Poor technique associated with lifting, bending and carrying of heavy loads.

• Certain congenital back issues, such as Spondylolithesis, Ankylosing Spondylosis, and Spina Bifida. (Congenital means "of a disease or physical abnormality present from birth").

• Back pain, as a result of poor posture during activity and at rest is extremely common.

On occasion, back pain may not be fully curable. However with improved posture, maintenance treatments, and the practice of regular exercises, back pain can be minimalized and managed effectively, reducing the need for long-term medications and time off work.

By way of a thorough interview and examination, we will get to the root cause of your problem. From there we can give treatment and expert posture advice to resolve your condition.

Neck pain

The two main types of neck pain we see regularly, are the acute sufferers, for example whiplash injury from a road traffic accident (RTA), and the more chronic conditions of the neck associated with poor posture and wear and tear.

If you are unfortunate enough to be involved in an RTA, invariably you will experience a degree of whiplash, whether or not it requires treatment. If it is severe enough to require treatment, then Physiotherapy is the answer. Soft tissue techniques are important to help normalise muscle tone and restore the mobility and function of the joints. Exercise is also paramount to recovery.

Poor posture puts excessive strain on joints and muscles of the neck over time. This is because if your body is incorrectly aligned, then muscles have to work harder to support you. The joints will more likely rub or impinge on one another causing pain and inflammation.

On the left is a chart giving a general structure for how we can treat or manage different types of back pain. It is often not always the case that people fall into one or any category, but it does give an outline.
